The Women's Network Launches at UT

by Melanie Burges

The Women’s Network has officially launched at the University of Texas at Austin!

Many wonderful women showed up to the first official TWN meeting, leading to a lot of excitement in the room for the future of the organization.

The meeting began with an introduction of the TWN executive board members - our wonderful co-presidents, marketing VP, Financial VP, campus relations coordinator and blog manager. In the true TWN spirit of inclusivity, the board consists of a diverse group of smart and motivated women.

We want to make it clear that TWN at UT Austin is accepting new members throughout the semester. Spread the word and tell your friends about TWN! Any prospective members can easily reach out though the interest form available on our social media.

TWN will be implementing a distinguished members program for ladies that attend at least three meetings during the spring semester. Distinguished members will have the opportunity to be featured on our blog and social media (and will also win bragging rights). We have a lot of fun things planned for future meetings such as mocktails, guest speakers and workshops - giving members a multitude of opportunities to grow and meet fellow Longhorn women.

TWN at UT Austin was able to seek out a wonderful faculty advisor, Dr. Melissa Murphy. She has overcome obstacles in her personal and professional life to become the successful woman she is today. She values the importance of networking and credits it for the opportunities she has been able to achieve. Dr. Murphy is full of insight and wisdom, and we are very thankful that she is spending time mentoring and supporting the next generation of women.

The Women’s Network was founded about two years ago at Syracuse University. It has since branched out to several other universities in the country. TWN celebrates ambition and provides opportunities to gain exposure to the professional world. Female speakers are invited to lecture on their journeys of success and to discuss topics that are rarely addressed in traditional classrooms. Above all, TWN creates a nationwide community of members who encourage, uplift and positively influence those around them.

There is a lot to look forward to this semester and a lot of fun things planned for upcoming meetings. Events to keep in mind include:

3/4 Speaker Meeting

3/25 Resume and LinkedIn Workshop

4/8 Speaker Meeting

4/22 Student Internship Panel

4/29 Mocktails

Join us this semester as we provide opportunities to learn from successful women and the women that surround us here on campus!
